Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross is a wonderful, thoughtful, and convicting selecton of 25 writings and sermons focusing on the wonder of Christ's sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection.
We live in a culture where the cross does not hold much significance. We see it worn around a neck, on a charm bracelet or as a tattoo- with little thought to its meaning. Even as believers, we tend, at times, to be distracted during the Easter season by the cares and worries of this life, without taking time to comtemplate the cross and what it means.
Nancy Guthrie uses classic and contemporary writers such as John Owen, John Calvin, Jonathan Edwards, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, John MacArthur, John Piper, Alistair Begg and others, to help slow us down so we don't rush past the cross during Easter season. We're urged to gaze intently at different aspects of Christ's passion and death and the power of his resurrection. Each writer helps us to reflect on the reason and the purpose for our great High Priest's sacrifice.
Each of the writings honors God's word and the gospel by faithfully expounding on a particular passage of Scripture that focuses on the Easter story. By reading one chapter each day, your heart and mind will be renewed and refreshed as you approach Easter and reflect upon the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
However, you don't have to use it only for the Easter season. Use it also at different times throughout the year as a way to contemplate what a wonderful Savior we have.
